Kristin Smyth, PhD, MSW, LCSW is an Instructor at the Sandler School of Social Work, Florida Atlantic University. She holds licensure as a clinical social worker in Florida and North Carolina and serves as a qualified supervisor for social work licensure in both states. Previously, she served as Assistant Professor at Western Carolina University and Adjunct Faculty at the University of South Florida.
Dr. Smyth completed her PhD in Social Work at the University of South Florida and MSW at the University of Central Florida. Her career includes over 15 years of clinical practice, focusing on individual, family, and group therapy in psychiatric hospitals, outpatient clinics, and private practices.
Her research and teaching emphasize client well-being through a Rogerian, person-centered approach. Key interests include psychosocial functioning, identity development, stigma/self-stigma, and interpersonal support among individuals with severe mental illness.
