Kristin C. Burkholder

Kristin C. Burkholder serves as Associate Dean of the May School of Arts and Sciences and Associate Professor of Environmental Science at Stonehill College, where she has been a faculty member since 2012. She chairs the Environmental Sciences and Studies Department and holds key administrative roles including Faculty Athletic Representative and faculty liaison for the Women's Ice Hockey team.

Her academic credentials include:

• Ph.D. in Physical Oceanography from Duke University
• B.S. in Chemistry from Bucknell University

Dr. Burkholder's research examines global environmental change impacts on ocean circulation pathways, with specialized focus on the Gulf of Maine ecosystem. Her work integrates climate science, large-scale ocean dynamics, and environmental policy through interdisciplinary approaches that bridge physical oceanography with environmental education. She actively promotes gender equity in STEM fields through dedicated research on women in science.

She contributes extensively to institutional governance through service on the Faculty Senate (2021-2025), Rank and Tenure Committee (2024-2025), and General Education Committee (2016-2021). Her professional engagement extends to higher education evaluation with the New England Commission of Higher Education and leadership development as a 2025 graduate of the HERS Leadership Institute, while mentoring early-career oceanographers through the MPOWIR program.
