Kristin Becker van Slooten

Kristin Becker van Slooten is a Senior Lecturer (Maître d'enseignement et de recherche) at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in the College of Engineering, affiliated with the Ecological Engineering Laboratory. Her research focuses on ecotoxicology, environmental risk assessment, and water quality, with expertise in pesticide impacts, soil ecotoxicology, and aquatic pollution. She has supervised 4 PhD students, 23 master's students, and 12 postgraduate students throughout her career.

Her research interests span environmental toxicology, pollution assessment in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, biodiversity conservation under chemical stressors, and ecological risk evaluation methodologies. She has led research groups in experimental ecotoxicology and contributed to international environmental commissions.

Her publications demonstrate consistent focus on pollutant impacts across ecosystems, with recent work emphasizing chemical mixture toxicity, regulatory frameworks, and tropical ecotoxicology. Administratively, she serves as project leader for EPFL's Equal Opportunities Office and represents EPFL/ETHZ School Assemblies on the ETH Board.
