Kristin Beate Vasbø

Kristin Beate Vasbø is an Associate Professor at the Department of Teacher Education and School Research, University of Oslo. She holds a PhD in Educational Research (2011) and a Cand. paed (2003), both from the University of Oslo. Her research focuses on youth culture, identity processes, and intercultural perspectives, with a particular emphasis on generational comparisons and international youth exchanges. She has led projects such as the three-generational study of modernization in China and Norway and contributed to initiatives like the Space2Cre8 project exploring social media's role in youth learning. Vasbø is also involved in the European Master’s program in European Youth Studies (MA EYS).

Her work analyzes youth experiences across cultural and generational divides, examining issues like family dynamics, educational choices, and digital learning spaces. Recent publications address parental authority across generations and the sociocultural implications of youth engagement in global digital networks. Vasbø’s methodologies emphasize ethnographic and qualitative approaches, often involving cross-cultural comparisons. She has collaborated internationally, including with institutions like UC Berkeley, and maintains active involvement in teacher education and curriculum development.
