Professor Kristijan Ramadan is a Full Professor of Molecular Medicine and Honorary Senior Researcher at the Department of Oncology, University of Oxford. He is also a Medical Research Council (MRC) Investigator and a Corresponding Member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts (HAZU).
- PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (supervised by Prof. U. Hubscher)
- Post-doctoral training at ETH-Zurich (group of Dr. H. Meyer)
- Junior Group Leader and Lecturer at University of Zurich (2009-2013)
- MRC Senior Group Leader and Associate Professor at University of Oxford (2013-2019)
Kristijan's research focuses on DNA repair mechanisms, particularly Chromatin-Associated Degradation and DNA-protein crosslink proteolysis repair. His work led to the discovery of Ruijs-Aalfs Syndrome (RJALS) and was recognized with the Proud of Croatia Award (2014).
Recent publications highlight his contributions to understanding ubiquitin-mediated repair processes in DNA-protein crosslinks and RNA-protein crosslinks. His team's work spans molecular pathways like SPRTN proteolysis, TEX264 autophagy, and K6-ubiquitin chain signaling.
- Proud of Croatia Award (Croatian Hero 2014)
- Corresponding Member, Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts (2020)
Kristijan serves as MRC Senior Group Leader, mentoring junior researchers and securing major grants for DNA repair research. He has supervised doctoral students and post-doctoral fellows, particularly during his tenure at University of Zurich and Oxford.
