معرفی
Professor Kristian Strømgaard is a distinguished academic at the University of Copenhagen, where he holds a Professorship in Chemical Biology within the Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. His research focuses on the intersection of chemistry and biology, particularly in developing novel chemical tools and therapeutic approaches. With over two decades of academic experience, he has established himself as a leading figure in medicinal chemistry and chemical biology research in Denmark and internationally.
Professor Strømgaard's educational background includes:
- 1996: M.Sc. Chemical Research, University College London, UK
- 1996: M.Sc. Pharmacy, Royal Danish School of Pharmacy, Copenhagen
- 1999: Ph.D. Medicinal Chemistry, Royal Danish School of Pharmacy, Copenhagen
Professor Strømgaard's research interests center on chemical biology with a particular focus on peptide chemistry, neuropharmacology, and drug design. His work bridges the gap between synthetic chemistry and biological applications, developing novel chemical tools to study biological processes and create potential therapeutics. He has made significant contributions to understanding membrane permeability of cyclic peptides, developing macrocyclic inhibitors, and creating synthetic probes for neuroscience applications. His research integrates medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, and molecular biology to address complex biological questions with chemical solutions.
Professor Strømgaard's recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on peptide-based drug development, neuropharmacology, and chemical tool development. His research spans from fundamental chemical biology investigations to translational applications, with particular emphasis on cyclic peptides, membrane permeability, and neuroreceptor modulation. The interdisciplinary nature of his work is evident in collaborations across chemistry, neuroscience, and pharmacology domains.
Among his notable scientific achievements are:
- 1997: The British Chevening Award
- 2000: The Krka Award
- 2004: The Hede Nielsen Award
Professor Strømgaard has been actively involved in academic mentoring and research funding. He has supervised 8 postdocs, 8 PhD students, and 22 MSc students throughout his career. His research group, the Chemical Biology group, currently comprises approximately 20 members and receives funding from multiple prestigious sources including H. Lundbeck A/S, the University of Copenhagen's Programs of Excellence, The Danish Medical Research Council, The Strategic Research Council, The Alfred Benzon Foundation, The Lundbeck Foundation, and The Carlsberg Foundation.
As head of the Chemical Biology group, Professor Strømgaard leads a dynamic research team focused on innovative approaches in chemical biology and drug discovery. He also serves as the academic coordinator for the "Brain, Mind, & Medicines" trans-faculty network at the University of Copenhagen, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration across neuroscience, pharmacology, and medicine.
