Kristian Damgaard Lyng is a PhD Fellow at the Department of Medicine and Health Technology, Aalborg University, and a Research Assistant at Aalborg University Hospital. His work bridges implementation science and shared decision-making in chronic musculoskeletal pain management, focusing on shoulder pain and knee conditions like Osgood Schlatter.
His research integrates critical realism, participatory methods, and systems thinking to develop complex healthcare interventions. Notable projects include the SHARE IT study on digital communication for children with disabilities and international surveys identifying patient-centered outcome domains for chronic pain. He supervises Bachelor and Master’s students in M.Sc. Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy and contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals via healthcare equity research.
Recent publications highlight trends in shared decision-making tools, implementation barriers, and patient-reported outcomes, particularly for subacromial and knee pain. He has also translated and validated clinical questionnaires like the Danish IcanSDM and co-developed priority-setting frameworks with patients and professionals.
Lyng’s external roles include principal investigator in multiple projects (e.g., mapping disease burden and funding in Denmark) and committee membership at Aalborg University. His work spans systematic reviews, qualitative studies, and policy-oriented research, with a focus on sustainable, user-tailored interventions.
