Kristi Barnwell

Kristi Barnwell is an Associate Professor in the History Department at the University of Illinois Springfield. Her academic work focuses on Middle East politics, culture, and history, with particular expertise in gender issues, global perspectives, and British-American imperial influences in the region.

Research Interests: Specializes in state-building processes in the United Arab Emirates, anti-imperial movements in the Gulf region, and intersections of gender/education in Middle Eastern contexts. Her teaching methods emphasize student-centered learning and transnational historical analysis.
