Kristen Kennedy Terry is an Assistant Professor at Arizona State University's School of International Letters and Cultures, specializing in French and Applied Linguistics. She holds a Ph.D. in French Linguistics from the University of California, Davis, an MBA in Finance from Saint Mary’s College of California, and a B.A. in Economics and International Area Studies from UCLA.
Her research focuses on the intersection of Second Language Acquisition (SLA) and Sociolinguistics, particularly the role of social networks in L2 learners' acquisition of sociolinguistic variation during study abroad. She emphasizes how informal interactions with native speakers influence learners' ability to use language variants authentically.
Key publications include her 2024 co-authored book Social Network Analysis in Second Language Research: Theory and Methods (Routledge) and articles in L2 Journal, Modern Language Journal, and Studies in Second Language Acquisition. Her work has been recognized with the 2022 Best of Modern Language Journal award.
