Kristen Irwin is an Associate Professor and Undergraduate Program Director at the Department of Philosophy, Loyola University Chicago since 2023. Previously, she served as Assistant Professor at Loyola (2014-2023) and Biola University (2009-2014). She earned her PhD in Philosophy from the University of California, San Diego in 2010.

Her research bridges 17th/18th Century Philosophy, Philosophy of Religion, and Metaethics, focusing on skepticism, divine moral norms, and the problem of evil. She explores how early modern thinkers like Locke, Bayle, and Leibniz navigated faith-reason dynamics, particularly in contexts of mental disorders and religious toleration.
Her scientific awards include the Provost’s Award for Excellence in Teaching Freshmen. She also contributes to encyclopedia entries (e.g., Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy) and book reviews across philosophical skepticism and political thought. Her courses include PHIL 130 (Philosophy and Persons), HONR 102 (Renaissance to Modernity), and advanced topics in Modern Philosophy.
