Kristen Desjarlais is an Assistant Professor in the L'nu, Political and Social Studies department at Cape Breton University. Her research focuses on inequality and health outcomes across diverse populations, with emphases on homelessness, housing, social support, harm reduction, and Indigenous wellbeing. As a mixed methods community-engaged researcher, she also explores topics such as sexuality, sexual pleasure, and physician health.
Her work prioritizes community needs and is situated within Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaw People. Dr. Desjarlais-deKlerk identifies as a settler-Metis woman and employs sociological frameworks to address systemic inequities.
