University of Nevada, Renoمعرفی
Kristen Clements-Nolle serves as Professor and Graduate Director of Epidemiology at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Public Health. Her research program focuses on social and psychological determinants of health across the lifespan, with particular emphasis on adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and their impact on adolescent behavioral health outcomes. Grounded in positive youth development frameworks, she investigates how resilience factors and positive childhood experiences (PCEs) mitigate ACEs effects.
Her educational background includes a Ph.D. in Epidemiology and an MPH in Behavioral Sciences, both from the University of California, Berkeley. Current research initiatives are supported by major federal grants including:
- Essentials for Childhood (EfC) in Nevada (CDC, 2023-2028; $2.1M; PI)
- Nevada System of Care for Youth (SAMHSA, 2025-2028; $1.8M; PI)
- Nevada Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (CDC, 2024-2029; $2.5M; Co-PI)
Her research portfolio demonstrates consistent focus on ACEs, substance abuse epidemiology, and health disparities among vulnerable youth populations. Recent publications reveal increasing attention to cannabis policy impacts, LGBTQ+ health disparities, and school-based surveillance systems. Methodologically, she employs population-based surveys, longitudinal cohort designs, and multilevel analytical approaches.
Scientific recognition includes:
- Foundation Professor designation (2025)
- Regents Academic Graduate Advisor Award (2023)
- University Academic Advisor Award (2022)
- F. Donald Tibbitts Distinguished Teacher Award (2013)
Her advising excellence is evidenced by consistent mentorship of student-authored publications (indicated by asterisks in author lists). Current work expands into military family health, transgender youth disparities, and polysubstance overdose epidemiology through Nevada's comprehensive YRBS infrastructure. She directs the state's primary adolescent health surveillance system which informs public health interventions across Nevada's school districts.
