Kriste Krstovski is an Associate Research Scientist at the Data Science Institute (DSI) and an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Business at Columbia Business School. He is affiliated with the Computing Systems for Data-Driven Science and other centers.
He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, completed under David Smith, with a postdoctoral stint at Columbia University and Yale University. He also earned his B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of New Hampshire, where he contributed to the Project54 system in the Consolidated Advanced Technologies for Law Enforcement Laboratory (CATLab). Earlier, he worked at Raytheon BBN Technologies as a Staff Scientist, focusing on DARPA projects like TransTac and BOLT, and studied at MIT as a special graduate student.
His research spans Probabilistic modeling, Bayesian latent variable models of text, Natural Language Processing, Information retrieval, Machine translation, and Speech-to-Speech Translation. He applies these to Health Informatics and Data Science applications, including projects in biomedical innovation analysis and EHR data extraction.
Recent publications (2020–2024) explore fake news virality analysis, EHR clinical data extraction, and biomedical innovation impact. Earlier work includes multilingual topic models, equation embeddings, and speech translation systems. His research bridges theoretical advancements with practical applications in health, finance, and social media.
Krstovski has been supported by Data Science Institute Seed Grants for interdisciplinary research. Though no formal advisees are listed, his collaborations include work with David Blei and John Lafferty. He contributes to teams like the Computing Systems for Data-Driven Science and the CATLab at UNH.
He was a key member of the CATLab at UNH, developing the Project54 voice-controlled police cruiser system. Currently, he works within Columbia’s DSI and Business School teams, focusing on data-driven solutions.
