Krishna Boini is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacological and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Houston College of Pharmacy. His research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of renal glomerular injury associated with obesity and hypertension, particularly the role of NLRP3 inflammasomes in chronic kidney disease progression.
- Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Toxicology, University of Tuebingen, Germany
- Master of Pharmacy (Pharmacology), Andhra University, India
- Bachelor of Pharmacy, Andhra University, India
Boini's research investigates inflammasome activation in podocyte injury, glomerular sclerosis, and endothelial dysfunction. His work explores how metabolic stressors like hyperhomocysteinemia and high-fat diets trigger inflammatory pathways involving NLRP3, ASC, TXNIP, and acid sphingomyelinase. He employs gene deletion models (NLRP3, ASC, SGK1) and pharmacological approaches to study these mechanisms.
His publications reveal trends in renal pharmacology, inflammation, and metabolic disease interactions. Key areas include sphingolipid signaling, oxidative stress, and dietary-induced pathologies in kidney and vascular systems.
