Kris Lulofs

Dr. Kris Lulofs serves as Associate Professor at the University of Twente within the Faculty of Behavioural, Management and Social Sciences, where he chairs the Governance and Technology for Sustainability (CSTM) section and sits on the Technology, Policy and Society (TPS) department board. He additionally manages admissions for CSTM's open PhD program.

His research centers on water governance, climate resilience, and socio-ecological systems, examining policy instrumentation and innovation strategies through over fifty funded projects. Current initiatives include CASTOR (NWO/NWA), GovAqua (Horizon Europe), SpongeWorks, DIWA, JCAR ATRACE, and Catch 2, addressing governance of sponge landscapes, urban climate resilience, and transboundary water cooperation.

Lulofs directs the Water track in the MEEM Master's program and co-developed the High Tech Human Touch minor on sustainable chain management, training 'change agents' bridging technology and society. His educational portfolio spans curriculum design, teaching, and supervision across all academic levels.

He has graduated six PhD candidates including Thomas Hoppe (Van Poelje award recipient), Jan van der Molen, Vera Vikolainen, Ewert Aukes, Maia Lordkipanidze, and Nicco Plamonia, while currently supervising six doctoral researchers. His scholarly output comprises seven co-edited books and over two hundred publications, including co-founding the Journal for Watergovernance.
