Dr. Kostas Velentzas is a Lecturer in the Department of Sport Science within the Faculty of Psychology and Sport Science at Bielefeld University. He is affiliated with the Neurocognition and Movement - Biomechanics research group and is also associated with the Center for Cognitive Interaction Technology (CITEC). Additionally, he serves as a Member of the Scientific Staff Council (WPR).
Dr. Velentzas earned his education from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Sport Science and pedagogy) and completed his Ph.D. at the German Sport University Cologne specializing in psychology and performance optimization. He is a certified sport psychologist with extensive practical experience.
His research focuses on Routine adaptation between performance routines and Visual perception and decision making in dynamic environments. These areas explore how athletes adapt their established performance routines under varying conditions and how visual information processing affects decision-making in fast-paced sports contexts.
As an educator, Dr. Velentzas is responsible for multiple courses including Applied Sports Psychology, Intelligent Movement, Sports Psychology, and Sports Science Fundamentals. His teaching spans both theoretical and practical aspects of sport science education.
Professionally, he has served as a practitioners' member of the German youth volleyball national team, participating in several European and World Championships. This practical experience directly informs his academic work and teaching methodology.
His office is located at UHG N3-111, with consultation hours on Tuesdays from 11:30-12:30 and by appointment.
