Kostakis Ioannis

Kostakis Ioannis is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the School of Pharmacy, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). He holds a B.S., M.Sc., and Ph.D. in Pharmacy and Medicinal Chemistry from NKUA, followed by postdoctoral research at NKUA and the Université de Rouen, France. His research focuses on synthetic organic chemistry, drug design, and the development of bioactive molecules with anticancer, antiviral, and antibacterial properties. He teaches advanced courses in organic synthesis and medicinal chemistry, including 'Advanced Organic Synthesis' and 'Drug Synthesis Practicals.'

Publications span 20+ years, emphasizing structure-activity relationships and drug discovery. Notable contributions include gram-scale synthesis of bioactive natural products and in vitro/in vivo evaluations of anti-inflammatory agents derived from mastic gum and olive extracts.

Lab & Teams: Leads research in the Pharmaceutical Chemistry section, focusing on medicinal chemistry and synthetic organic chemistry. Collaborates internationally on natural product derivatization and drug mechanism studies.
