Koren Roach is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Schulich School of Engineering and the Department of Radiology at the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary. He also holds an Adjunct Assistant Professor appointment in the Faculty of Kinesiology. As a Child Health & Wellness Researcher at the Alberta Children's Hospital Research Institute and a full member of the McCaig Institute for Bone and Joint Health, his work spans interdisciplinary research in biomedical engineering and musculoskeletal health.
Educational Background:
- BSc in Biomedical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute
- PhD in Bioengineering from the University of Utah
- Postdoctoral Scholar in the Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging at the University of California, San Francisco
Koren Roach's research focuses on multimodal analyses of joint biomechanics, quantitative MRI measures of joint health, physical activity, and sex differences in musculoskeletal disease progression. His long-term goal is to identify biomechanical and image-based biomarkers for early osteoarthritis risk prediction and non-surgical intervention.
Research Partnerships include participation in University of Calgary strategic initiatives: Child Health and Wellness (2020-2025), Engineering Solutions for Health (2015-2021), and Infections, Inflammations, and Chronic Diseases (2015-2021).
He is currently recruiting MSc research assistants in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering for projects on powered orthosis development and human biomechanics, with a stipend of $23,300+ and start date of January 1, 2025.
