Dr. Korah Parackal serves as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the Cyclone Testing Station within James Cook University's College of Science and Engineering. He joined the station in 2013 as a Research Assistant after completing his Civil Engineering degree and has since become integral to wind engineering and disaster resilience research initiatives.
His educational qualifications include:
- Civil Engineering degree from the University of Queensland
- PhD from James Cook University specializing in progressive failures of roofing connections during windstorms
Dr. Parackal's research centers on structural integrity under extreme weather conditions, with expertise spanning wind tunnel testing, building product strength validation, real-time cyclone wind data collection, and post-disaster damage forensics. His current work focuses on the Bushfires and Natural Hazards CRC project developing retrofitting methodologies for older residential structures to withstand severe wind loads, directly contributing to safer building standards in cyclone-prone regions.
As a core member of the Cyclone Testing Station team, he conducts field investigations during cyclones and laboratory testing to advance practical engineering solutions for community resilience against natural disasters.
