Dr Kalliris's research centers on the tension between law and freedom, particularly examining paternalism and perfectionism. His work spans legal and political theory, criminal law, criminology (with emphasis on organised crime and corruption), and behavioural analysis of law. He integrates psychological frameworks like Self-Determination Theory to explore autonomy in legal contexts and addresses contemporary issues including online safety and criminal justice reform.
Analysis of his 2017-2024 publications reveals consistent focus on legal philosophy of autonomy and paternalism, evolving into empirical studies of criminal justice efficiency and digital-era challenges. His work bridges theoretical jurisprudence with practical applications in corruption studies, legal aid policy, and court system optimization, often using psychological insights to evaluate legal interventions.
His scientific recognition includes:
- DAAD Scholarship for postdoctoral work at the University of Frankfurt
- Postdoctoral Fellowship in Global Health Justice at King's College London
Dr Kalliris actively supervises research and leads a British Academy-funded project assessing legal aid cuts in England and Wales. He welcomes PhD/Master's supervision in legal theory and criminology, particularly on organised crime, corruption, and autonomy-related legal frameworks, while maintaining active legal practice through the Athens Bar Association since 2003.
