Prof Konstantin Blyuss is a Professor of Applied Mathematics at the University of Sussex, within the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences and the Department of Mathematics. He holds fellowships from the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA) and the Higher Education Academy (HEA). His research focuses on mathematical biology, epidemiology, immunology, and dynamical systems, with particular emphasis on delay differential equations and network dynamics.
He obtained his PhD in Mathematics from the University of Surrey (2000-2003), a Diplom-Physiker from Brandenburg University of Technology (1999-2000), and a Diploma in Theoretical Physics from Oles Honchar Dnipropetrovsk National University (1995-2000).
His research interests include mathematical models of immune response, plant infections, autoimmune diseases, and epidemic dynamics on networks. He has contributed to understanding the spread of diseases like HPV, dengue fever, and malaria, as well as the impact of interventions such as vaccination and healthcare infrastructure.
Prof Blyuss has supervised numerous PhD students and researchers, including Khalid Aldawsari, Farzad Fatehi, and Neil Sherborne. His work integrates theoretical analysis with practical applications, addressing challenges in public health and agricultural science through mathematical frameworks.
He has received grants for projects such as ‘Fighting crop losses with mathematics and biostimulants’ and contributions to the Bristol Centre for Complexity Sciences. His publications span topics from plant immune responses to stochastic effects in autoimmunity and the dynamics of疫情防控 measures.
