Dr. Kongji Qin is an Associate Professor of Language Education in the Department of Teaching and Learning at New York University’s Steinhardt School. His research focuses on addressing educational inequities faced by immigrant youth in U.S. schools through critical frameworks like critical race theory, decolonization, and antiracist pedagogies. He examines identity formation, gender dynamics, and equity-based instructional practices, particularly in multilingual and multicultural contexts. Dr. Qin’s work is supported by a 2022 National Academy of Education/Spencer Postdoctoral Fellowship.
His research programs include: (1) analyzing identity, gender, and racialization in immigrant students’ language learning, (2) developing equity-focused teaching strategies, and (3) advancing antiracist pedagogies for immigrant learners. Key projects involve collaborative action research with K-12 teachers and students to humanize classroom practices through humor and translanguaging.
