His research consistently explores how firm-level dynamics aggregate to macroeconomic outcomes, with particular attention to innovation processes, technological diffusion, and the role of uncertainty in economic growth.
He has received multiple research grants from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, including a current project (2025-2030) on 'Empirical Study on General Purpose Technologies: Generation, Diffusion, and Impact' and a recently completed project (2021-2025) analyzing economic growth policies based on matching between companies and researchers. His professional affiliations include the Japanese Economic Association, American Economic Association, and Econometric Society.
As an educator, Oikawa teaches advanced macroeconomics courses at Waseda University's Graduate School of Social Sciences, including Macroeconomics I-III, Advanced Macroeconomics, and specialized seminars on applied macroeconomics.
