His publications analyze trends in literary criticism, film adaptation, and transnational cultural flows, emphasizing how media technologies (e.g., magic lanterns, radio) shaped postwar narratives. Toba also contributes to public discourse through lectures, exhibitions, and media commentary on modern Japanese literature and art.
