معرفی
Kohei Ichikawa is a Japanese observational astronomer and non-tenure-track Associate Professor at Waseda University’s Faculty of Science and Engineering, Global Center for Science and Engineering. He previously served as Associate/Assistant Professor at Tohoku University, as JSPS fellow at Columbia and the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan, and as visiting researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics. With 120 refereed papers, an h-index of 35 and >4,800 citations, he is a leading figure in studies of super-massive black-hole growth, AGN obscuration, and high-redshift radio galaxies.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Science (Astronomy), Kyoto University, 2015
- B.S. in Science, Kyoto University, 2010
Research interests: Kohei’s core interests span observational astronomy, super-massive black-hole accretion and feedback, multi-phase AGN outflows, coronal-line diagnostics, dust-obscured galaxies, and large-area radio-to-X-ray surveys including BASS, WERGS and HSC. His work exploits data from Subaru, ALMA, JVLA, Gemini, eROSITA, JWST and other facilities.
Recent papers reveal vigorous investigation of (1) powerful kiloparsec-scale outflows in hyper-luminous infrared galaxies, (2) rapidly spinning over-massive black holes at cosmic dawn revealed by JWST “little red dots”, (3) high-ionization mid-IR lines as clean AGN power indicators, and (4) demographics of faint quasars and radio galaxies out to z ≈ 5, underlining his leadership in high-redshift AGN science.
Honours & awards:
- MEXT Young Scientist Award (2022)
- 21st Intelligent Cosmos Young Researcher Award (2022)
- Distinguished & Prominent Researcher, Tohoku Univ. (2021-22)
- Marcel Grossmann Award (team, 2021)
- Young Ensemble Workshop Talk Award, Tohoku Univ. (2022)
Committee & society roles: He serves on the Subaru Telescope Time Allocation Committee, is a core member of the Thirty Meter Telescope International Science Definition Team, and holds memberships in the IAU, AAS, and Astronomical Society of Japan.
Grants & projects: Kohei is/was PI/co-I on numerous competitive grants including JSPS KAKENHI projects, ALMA and Subaru large programmes, and the eROSITA/WERGS collaboration, securing observation time on world-class facilities and leading high-impact data releases.
