Prof. Dr. Klaus Weber holds the Professorship of Comparative European Economic and Social History at the Faculty of Cultural Studies (Kuwi) of Europa-Universität Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder). He serves as Professor and Deputy Chair of the Doctoral Committee, maintaining his office in room HG 063 at Große Scharrnstraße 59.
His research focuses on European economic and social history from a cultural studies perspective, examining significant developments from the late Middle Ages to the 21st century. Professor Weber analyzes Europe within global contexts, challenging Eurocentric interpretations through comparative studies with East Asia and exploring the historical roots of contemporary economic and social problems.
His work investigates how the economy functions as part of culture, providing analytical perspectives on capitalism's genesis in Europe and its sociocultural consequences including transformations in social structures, family dynamics, and gender roles. His research also examines ecological implications of economic systems and historical connections between imperial conflicts and global events like the world wars.
