Dr. Klaudia M. Rivera is a Professor of Education at Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus. She holds multiple leadership roles, including Director of the I-START Program (a TESOL teacher residency initiative with the Internationals Network for Public Schools) and Coordinator of the TESOL and Early Childhood Programs. Her academic journey includes a B.A. from Central American University (Nicaragua), an M.S. from Bank Street College of Education, and an Ed.D. from Teachers College, Columbia University.
Her research focuses on language policy, critical pedagogy, biliteracy, and community-based education. Key themes include the sociopolitical dimensions of language use, bilingualism advocacy, and participatory educational practices. Dr. Rivera’s work emphasizes empowering marginalized communities through inclusive education frameworks.
