Klaudia Carcani is an Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Communication, Faculty of Computer Science, Østfold University College (Norway). Her research focuses on designing healthcare technologies to enhance patient empowerment, particularly in cognitive rehabilitation. She co-leads a joint initiative with Sunnaas Rehabilitation Hospital to develop participatory design practices for patients with cognitive impairments. Her academic background includes a major in Business Informatics, master's studies in Information Systems, and professional experience in IT solutions for logistics, customer care, and project management.
Research Interests: Her work bridges Participatory Design, Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW), and Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). Key areas include healthcare technology design, patient empowerment in rehabilitation, and inclusive design methodologies.
Publications & Projects: Carcani has contributed to over 15 peer-reviewed articles, focusing on topics like AI integration in design processes, ethical frameworks for smart cities, and co-design for cognitive impairment support. She has led projects such as 'EquiP' (a co-design method for collaboration) and 'BEACON' (a CSCW tool for meetings). Her work emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration between academia and healthcare institutions.
Teaching: She teaches courses such as Design Methods (Bachelor of Digital Media and Design) and Interaction Design (Master of Computer Science). Her pedagogical approach emphasizes practical, work-integrated learning in digital competencies.
Labs/Teams: She is part of the 'Democratizing design practices in the digital society' research group, advocating for equitable design methodologies in technology development.
