Kjetil Sunde is a Professor at the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine, Oslo University Hospital and University of Oslo. With a career spanning over three decades, his research focuses on emergency medicine, post-resuscitation care, and traumatic brain injuries. He has led groundbreaking work in cardiac arrest management, including therapeutic hypothermia and targeted temperature management.

His research combines clinical trials (RCTs), registry studies, and porcine animal models to explore myocardial injury, cerebral perfusion, and long-term outcomes for cardiac arrest survivors. Recent projects analyze mild hypercapnia effects and social media's role in ICU guideline adherence.
He has collaborated internationally through the European Resuscitation Council (Co-Chair, 2006-2010) and European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (Chair, 2016-2019). Awards include the NAKOS Research Price (2007), Norwegian Society of Anesthesiology Research Price (2011), and ACTA Lecture (2019).
