Kjersti Westvik-Johari

Kjersti Westvik-Johari is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Public Health and Nursing, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). She actively contributes to the Committee of Nordic Assisted Reproduction Technology and Safety (CoNARTaS), conducting large-scale epidemiological research on assisted reproductive technology (ART) outcomes across Nordic populations.

Her research specializes in reproductive and perinatal epidemiology, investigating ART-associated risks including placenta previa, hypertensive disorders, stillbirth, neonatal death, cerebral palsy, and type 1 diabetes in offspring. She employs advanced within-sibship analytical methods to isolate treatment effects from parental confounding factors, with particular focus on fetal growth patterns and long-term child health outcomes.

Analysis of her 13 publications (2021-2025) reveals consistent use of Nordic cohort data to examine critical ART safety questions. Her work demonstrates methodological rigor through sibling comparisons and appears in leading journals including PLoS Medicine, Human Reproduction, and Hypertension, highlighting clinical implications for ART protocols and perinatal care.

As a core member of the CoNARTaS consortium, she collaborates with multidisciplinary teams across Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Finland to advance evidence-based practices in reproductive medicine through rigorous population science.
