Kiya Gezahegne

Dr. Kiya Gezahegne serves as an Assistant Professor at Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia, and was a guest researcher from May to June 2023. Her academic work centers on migration dynamics in the Horn of Africa region with fieldwork concentrated in Ethiopia and Sudan.

Her research spans international migration, refugee studies, gender policy, religious identity, borderland conflict, marginalization, contemporary slavery, and adolescent wellbeing. Notable projects include the 'Borderland Dynamics in East Africa' initiative (coordinated by the University of Bergen) examining Ethiopia-Sudan border migration, Ethiopian migrant experiences in the Middle East, migration management at the Ethiopia-Sudan border, migration-poverty interlinkages in Ethiopia, and labor market migration in Addis Ababa. Current work investigates external policy impacts on migration management throughout Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa.
