Kitty Wahlberg

Kitty Wahlberg is an Instructor II in the Department of Justice Studies at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU). She holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Studies with concentrations in Anthropology and Film & Media Studies from Florida Atlantic University, an M.A. in Anthropology (Florida Atlantic University), and a B.A. with Honors in Anthropology from New York University. Her research and teaching interests span visual anthropology, media anthropology, folklore, linguistic anthropology, South Asian studies, film festivals, oral histories, human rights, identity, and popular culture.

Her doctoral dissertation explored the centrality of self in response to humanitarianism through an ethnographic study of the Global Peace Film Festival. Her master’s thesis analyzed cultural representations of children and parenting in 1990s Hollywood films, while her undergraduate honors thesis focused on skeletal anatomy of primates.
