Dr. Kit Morrell is a Lecturer in Classics and Ancient History at the University of Queensland, holding the Susan Blake Lectureship since 2020. Previously, she served as an ARC DECRA Fellow at the University of Melbourne and a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Amsterdam. Her research focuses on late Roman Republican history, law, and reform, with particular attention to systemic reform programs and non-legislative strategies. She holds a PhD from the University of Sydney (2014) in Ancient History and Law.

Research Interests: Roman Republic (late period), Roman law, reform strategies, Roman women’s legal rights, rule of law, and ancient historiography. Her current projects include 'Reforming the Roman Republic' (DECRA-funded) and co-editing The Rule of Law in Ancient Rome.
Publications: Notable works include Pompey, Cato, and the Governance of the Roman Empire (OUP, 2017) and co-editing The Alternative Augustan Age (OUP, 2019). Recent research explores legal changes affecting women, civil war’s impact on law, and Augustan-era governance reforms.
Awards: ARC DECRA Fellow (2020–2024).
Supervision: Advises on Honours and postgraduate topics in Roman history, law, and women’s studies. Recent supervisees include projects on Roman military communities, imperial women, and domestic architecture.
