Dr. Kishana Taylor is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Towson University. She holds a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Biomedical Science from the University of Georgia (2018), an M.S. in Public Health Microbiology and Emerging Infectious Disease from The George Washington University (2013), and a B.S. in Animal Science from the University of Delaware (2011). Her research focuses on emerging viral pathogens, evolutionary dynamics, and ecoepidemiology, incorporating health equity frameworks like critical race theory and social determinants of health.
Research interests center on virology, infectious disease epidemiology, and zoonotic pathogen emergence. Her work investigates how climate change and habitat encroachment influence disease outbreaks and develops mitigation strategies using a One Health approach.
Recent publications explore viral reassortment mechanisms in influenza, zoonotic risk prediction tools, and spatial epidemiology of wildlife diseases. Her work demonstrates strong interdisciplinary collaboration in public health virology.
Scientific awards include:
- William A. Hinton Award (2023) from the American Society for Microbiology
- Distinguished Young Alumni (2021) from the University of Delaware
