Dr. Kirk A. Johnson is an Assistant Professor of Justice Studies and Medical Humanities at Montclair State University's College of Humanities and Social Sciences. He holds a BA in Religious Studies from Seton Hall University, MDiv from Drew Theological School, and DMH from Drew University. His research focuses on bioethics, race and medicine, and health disparities, with notable works like Medical Stigmata and The Anti-Racism Resource Guide. He co-hosts the Bioethics in the Margins podcast and actively serves on the Atlantic Health Systems Bioethics Committee and the UCC Central Atlantic Conference leadership.
Johnson’s academic contributions span over 15 peer-reviewed articles and books addressing racial equity in healthcare, medical curriculum reform, and social determinants of health. His work bridges theology, ethics, and medicine to advocate for marginalized communities. Awards include a fellowship from the American Heart Association’s Multicultural Initiatives program and membership in the American Society of Bioethics and Humanities.
