Kiril Sotirovski

Kiril Sotirovski is a Full Professor at the Faculty of Forestry, University of Ss. Cyril and Methodius in Skopje, North Macedonia. He teaches courses including Forest Phytopathology, Diseases of Ornamental Plants, and Forest Microbiology, while also serving as Dean since 2016. His career spans over 30 years at the university, progressing from junior assistant to leadership roles.

• Graduated (1989), MSc (1995), and PhD (2000) from the Faculty of Forestry in Skopje

His research focuses on forest pathology, particularly the Cryphonectria parasitica fungus causing chestnut blight, and its biological control via hypoviruses. He investigates fungal population dynamics, epigenetic diversity, and invasive forest pests like the oak lace bug. Recent articles analyze biocontrol agents (Trichoderma atroviride, Bacillus subtilis), invasive species modeling, and fungal genetics.

Scientific contributions include documenting new fungal species (e.g., Cryphonectria carpinicola in the Balkans) and pests (e.g., Belonochilus numenius in North Macedonia). His work bridges forest microbiology and ecosystem management, with emphasis on sustainable control strategies.
