Kip Perry is a Research Fellow in the Department of History at the University of Kansas, concurrently serving as a Graduate Research Assistant. They hold an Indigenous Studies certificate and focus on the historical exchange of knowledge and science in colonial Mexico (17th–19th centuries).
Education: B.A. in Spanish and International Studies (with a minor in Religious Studies) from North Carolina State University (2015); M.A. in History from NC State (2022). Their M.A. thesis examined racial taxonomies in 18th-century Mexican casta paintings and their role in colonial science and identity formation.
Research interests include Indigenous, Creole, and Spanish scientific practices; colonial racialization; and the intersection of art (e.g., casta paintings) with scientific discourse. Advised by Robert Schwaller.
Recipient of the Chancellor's Doctoral Fellowship (2022–present).
