Kimmo Karhu is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management, Aalto University. He holds a Doctoral degree (2017) and Master's degree (2002) in Engineering and Technology from Aalto University.
His research focuses on platform ecosystems, digital platforms, network externalities, and sustainability. Key areas include strategic management of platform markets, hydrogen valleys, and data-driven innovation governance. He has led EU-funded projects like BalticSeaH2, a cross-border initiative advancing hydrogen energy systems.
Notable awards include the 2nd Best Course award in Computer Science (2020) and the BalticSeaH2 Project Funding (2023). He has also been recognized for contributions to open-source strategies and innovation education.
Kimmo has published extensively on platform dynamics, digital ecosystems, and sustainability. His work bridges theoretical frameworks with practical applications, addressing challenges in multi-stakeholder collaborations and tech governance.
