Kimberly Voss is a tenured professor in the Film and Mass Media Program at the University of Central Florida. She specializes in journalism history with a focus on women’s contributions to media, particularly in food journalism, fashion coverage, and the evolution of women’s pages. Her research bridges historical analysis with contemporary media studies, emphasizing the sociocultural impact of journalism on gender dynamics and societal norms.
Her academic career includes authoring multiple books such as The Food Section: Newspaper Women and the Culinary Community and Politicking Politely: Well-Behaved Women Making a Difference, alongside over 30 published articles. Voss has received the 2014 Carol DeMasters Service to Food Journalism Award and been featured as a speaker at SPJ’s Excellence in Journalism and the College English Association.
Her research interests span women’s studies, media law, and social media, with a particular emphasis on re-evaluating the historical role of 'soft news' and its significance in shaping modern media narratives. She has contributed to professional organizations like the History Division of AEJMC and currently serves on the American Journalism Historians Association Publications Board.
