Kimberly Skobba is a Josiah Meigs Distinguished Professor at the University of Georgia's College of Family and Consumer Sciences, Department of Financial Planning, Housing and Consumer Economics. Her research focuses on low-income housing needs, rural housing challenges, and community development dynamics in the Southeastern U.S. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota (2008), an M.A. (2002), and a B.A. in Communications from Augsburg College (1997).
Research interests include housing insecurity among marginalized groups, biographical research methods for studying housing pathways, and the interplay between social capital and community development capacity. Skobba has published extensively on topics such as college student homelessness, rural housing affordability, and civic engagement in housing policy-making.
Recipient of multiple teaching awards including the Richard B. Russell Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching (2016) and the Lily Teaching Fellow distinction (2014-16). Her work bridges academic research with practical policy solutions through collaborative projects with local governments and nonprofits. Current research emphasizes housing pathways of vulnerable populations and innovative strategies for sustainable rural development.
