Dr. Kimberly A. P. Mitchell is a Professor of Biology at Liberty University's School of Health Sciences, located in Lynchburg, Virginia. Her research focuses on nucleoside diphosphate kinase (NDPK) and primary cilia, investigating their roles in cellular functions, cancer, and kidney disease. She earned her undergraduate degree from Liberty University and has remained in the region since 1995.
Her work includes pioneering methods for primary cilia isolation via shear force and elucidating NDPK's membrane lipid interactions regulated by nucleotides. Her publications span biochemistry, molecular biology, and cell biology, with a focus on enzyme-protein dynamics and microtubule-based structures.
Dr. Mitchell is actively involved in teaching biology and chemistry courses, while maintaining a specialty cake business during summers and holidays. She volunteers with the Marriage Alliance of Central Virginia and actively participates in Grace EFC church activities with her husband Jamie.
