معرفی
Dr. Kimberley Wang is an Adjunct Senior Research Fellow at the School of Human Sciences, The University of Western Australia (UWA). Her work bridges developmental biology and respiratory medicine, focusing on how prenatal factors like low birth weight influence lifelong cardiopulmonary health. With a PhD from the University of South Australia and a Master in Public Policy (Public Administration & Governance) with Distinction from UWA, she combines scientific rigor with policy expertise.
- Adjunct Senior Research Fellow, UWA School of Human Sciences
- Honorary Research Fellow, Telethon Kids Institute
- Active in interdisciplinary collaborations across Australia and internationally
Dr. Wang’s research centers on three key themes: (1) low birth weight and asthma associations, (2) airway fat characterization in obesity-asthma comorbidity, and (3) pharmacological interventions to reduce airway smooth muscle (ASM) thickness. Her studies employ animal models, imaging technologies (e.g., polarization-sensitive optical coherence tomography), and molecular analyses to uncover mechanistic links between fetal development and adult disease.
Her 15 most recent publications (2023-2025) reveal a focus on ASM mechanics, adipose tissue interactions, and developmental programming of respiratory disorders. Keywords include respiratory medicine, developmental biology, and biomechanics, with sub-fields spanning airway remodeling, mechanosensation, and obesity-asthma comorbidity.
- Fellow of the American Thoracic Society (2025)
- 3Rs Achievement in Animal Ethics (2024)
- UWA Mid-Career Research Award Commendation (2024)
- Science at the Shine Dome Sponsorship (2024)
- Career Development Grant (2024)
Dr. Wang has secured 14 competitive grants (2013-2025), including major awards from the NHMRC, Asthma Foundation WA, and Dutch Foundation for Asthma Prevention. Her research is conducted in collaboration with institutions like the Telethon Kids Institute and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, leveraging advanced imaging and computational modeling to translate findings into clinical applications.
