Dr. Kim Turner is a Senior Lecturer in Speech and Language Therapy at Manchester Metropolitan University's Faculty of Health and Education. She holds a BA (Hons) in French Language and Literature from the University of East Anglia, a Postgraduate Diploma and MSc in Speech and Language Therapy from City University, and a PhD from the University of Sheffield (2019) focused on speech therapy services in youth offending institutions. She maintains honorary positions at the University of Sheffield and professional memberships with RCSLT and HCPC.
Her research specializes in:
- Communication needs in criminal justice settings
- Neurodevelopmental disorders in youth offenders
- Mental health and speech pathology integration
- Autism spectrum service provision
Publications (2010-2024) demonstrate sustained focus on speech therapy in custodial settings, autism management in prisons, and courtroom communication accessibility. Recent work examines neurodiversity over-representation in justice systems.
Dr. Turner teaches across undergraduate and postgraduate Speech and Language Therapy programs, including BSc Speech and Language Therapy and MSc conversion courses. She received the 2016 Sternberg Award for Clinical Innovation for developing prison autism standards.
