Kim Strandberg is a Professor at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Business and Economics, and Law in the Social Sciences department at Åbo Akademi University. His research focuses on democracy, political participation, deliberative processes, and the impact of social media on civic engagement. He has led and co-led multiple projects, including EmoAffect (emotional social media and affective polarization) and DemDialogue (societal discussion climate).
His work addresses topics such as referendums, political polarization, online news comment quality, and the role of influencers in political mobilization. He has received the 2020 Meisel-Laponce Award for outstanding research in political science. Key projects include analyzing municipal mergers, consultative referendums, and the effects of deliberative mini-publics on voter knowledge and political trust.
