Kim Stewart

Dr. Kim Stewart is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of New Brunswick. Her roles include teaching, research, and leadership in early childhood education. She holds a PhD from the University of New Brunswick’s Faculty of Education, alongside advanced certifications in educational leadership and early childhood education. Dr. Stewart has served as an elementary school principal for 10 years and a K-12 teacher for 8 years, with extensive experience in literacy and curriculum development.

Her research focuses on early childhood education, literacy practices, play-based learning, and feminist theory applications in pedagogy. Key areas include curriculum evaluation, home-school literacy connections, and teacher professional development. She has collaborated internationally with organizations like the Inter-American Development Bank and World Bank on literacy and early childhood projects in Barbados and Guyana.

Dr. Stewart co-curates the influential Twitter account @ShelfieTalk, fostering literacy discussions through #ShelfieTalk chats. Her grants include a $150,000 McCain Foundation award and a Helen MacFarlane Fellowship.
