Kim Pulvers, PhD, MPH, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) within the College of Humanities, Arts, Behavioral and Social Sciences. She holds a PhD in Clinical Health Psychology and a Master of Public Health from the University of Kansas, with postdoctoral training at the University of California, San Diego.
- Research focuses on psychological factors in health behavior change
- Areas: disease prevention, health promotion, nicotine/tobacco regulation, health disparities, stress/mental health, distress tolerance, positive psychology
- NIH-funded psychiatric diagnostic supervisor role
Her lab investigates two primary research lines:
- Nicotine and Tobacco Use: addresses health disparities, electronic cigarettes, and environmental impacts of filtered cigarettes
- Biopsychosocial Stress Models: employs cold pressor tasks, physiological measurements, and social norm manipulations
Teaches courses in psychological testing, abnormal psychology, human sexuality, field experiences, and clinical/counseling psychology proseminars. Lab projects include longitudinal studies on tobacco use among college students and community-based interventions at local high schools.
