Dr. Kim Madden is an Associate Professor (Part-Time) at McMaster University, affiliated with the departments of Surgery and Health Research Methods, Evidence & Impact (HEI). She holds research affiliations at the Research Institute of St. Joseph's Hamilton, the McMaster Institute for Research on Aging, and the Michael DeGroote Centre for Medicinal Cannabis Research. Her research focuses on orthopaedics, pain management, medical cannabis, hip/knee replacement surgery, and methodological rigor in clinical trials.
Education: B.Sc. (University of Waterloo), M.Sc. and Ph.D. (McMaster University). Her doctoral work centered on methodological transparency in intimate partner violence research.
Research Interests: She leads large international randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in orthopaedics, emphasizing statistical fragility analysis and improving clinical trial reporting. Her work spans opioid reduction strategies, cannabis in pain management, and perioperative care innovations. She also investigates musculoskeletal health disparities and gender-based violence in healthcare settings.
Key Projects: Includes the HEALTH trial on hip fracture management, the OREOS trial on opioid reduction, and the STABLE trial comparing shoulder instability treatments. She co-leads the PRAISE study on intimate partner violence in fracture clinics.
