Dr. Kim Machan is an Honorary Fellow at the School of Communication and Arts, University of Queensland. She is a video and media arts specialist, curator, and founder of MAAP-Media Art Asia Pacific, a non-profit organization since 1998. Her work focuses on media art collaborations across Australia and Asia, curating major exhibitions and festivals, including 'MAAP in Beijing: MOIST' (2002) and 'LANDSEASKY: Revisiting Spatiality in Video Art' (2014-2015). She has held roles with institutions such as the National Art Museum of China and Queensland Art Gallery.
Education: PhD research titled 'Refocusing on the Medium: the Rise of East Asia Video Art', which was exhibited in China (2020-2022).
Research interests include East Asian video art, curatorial practices, and cross-cultural collaborations in media arts. Her work bridges academic and institutional partnerships, emphasizing contemporary art in the Asia Pacific region.
Publications include edited works like 'Zhang Peili: From Painting to Video' (2016) and 'Light from Light' (2012), recognized with awards such as the Australian Arts in Asia Award (2013).
Lecturing and mentorship: Taught curatorial masterclasses and contemporary Asian art in universities across Australia, China, and Singapore. Active in academic and artistic communities through initiatives like the Digital Futures Lab and Jacaranda Journal.
