Kim Llerena is a Lecturer in the Department of Strategic Communication at the University of Miami, where she teaches photography, design, and visual communication. She holds an MFA in Photographic & Electronic Media from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) and a BA in Journalism from New York University (NYU).
Before joining the University of Miami, Llerena spent 7 years as a Lecturer in Film & Media Arts at American University in Washington, D.C. Her research explores the constructed relationship to place, focusing on methods of delineating terrain, territory, and private/public space through photographic and electronic media.
Her work has been nationally recognized, including:
- D.C. Commission on the Arts & Humanities Fellowship Program grantee (2021)
- Flash Forward Competition top 100 winner by The Magenta Foundation (2019)
Recent exhibitions of her work include The Phillips Collection (Washington, D.C.), Candela Gallery (Richmond, VA), Academy Art Museum (Easton, MD), and 621 Gallery (Tallahassee, FL). She continues to contribute to academic and artistic discourse in strategic communication and visual storytelling.
