Kim Gunnerson

Kim Gunnerson serves as an Associate Teaching Professor in the Chemistry department within the School of Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics at the University of Washington Bothell. She joined the faculty in autumn 2007 following completion of her Ph.D. at the University of Washington Seattle.

Her educational background includes:

• Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from University of Washington, Seattle
• B.S. in Chemistry from Pacific Lutheran University, Tacoma

Dr. Gunnerson's teaching interests span General Chemistry and Computer Science, reflecting her interdisciplinary background. Her professional journey began with ten years as a laboratory chemist analyzing pollutants using GC/MS techniques, followed by seven years teaching high school chemistry. Her doctoral research focused on computer simulations to study the classical mechanical dynamics of molecules, bridging chemistry and computational methods. Most recently, she co-authored a general chemistry laboratory textbook, demonstrating her commitment to innovative chemistry education.

Her research interests include physical chemistry, molecular dynamics simulations, and the application of computer science techniques to chemical problems. This interdisciplinary approach informs her teaching methodology and curriculum development.
